Lately, we’ve been seeing a lot of people who suffer from nerve pain, and we’re going to try our best to help you all get the relief you are seeking.

What is nerve pain?

Nerve pain can be very tough to deal with! Neuropathic (nerve) pain is defined as a disorder or disease affecting the somatosensory nervous system and can be present as sporadic or chronic pain.

Everyone with nerve pain suffers to a different extent –  it can present as weakness, numbness and mild to extreme pain – or a combination of all of the above. Some people say their nerve pain is akin to being repeatedly stabbed, while others feel it as more of a general numbness.

Nerve pain is not uncommon and can result from something relatively simple to fix such as a minor injury to a muscle or joint resulting in a nerve being “pinched” and merely needing some TLC to recover. Or nerve pain can be a chronic condition brought on by a more severe condition such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and HIV.

What can help?

If you suffer from nerve pain, you have probably tried all sorts of remedies to find relief. All too often the only relief doctors can offer are heavy, harsh painkillers which can potentially cause other health issues, addiction, and even possible overdose concerns.

Certain vitamin or mineral deficiencies can make nerve pain worse so have your doctor check your B vitamin levels – especially B12 – and take supplements if you are low. Why suffer any more than you have to!

Alternative therapy methods such as visiting a massage therapist, chiropractor, acupuncturist or physiotherapist can provide some relief as well, depending on where your nerve pain is located and what’s causing it.

Can medical marijuana help?

Cannabis has been researched extensively for the use of nerve pain over the past decade and is showing great relief and promising results in reducing nerve pain from a variety of factors.

When cannabis enters your body in any form, it immediately activates your cannabinoid receptors and sends signals to your central nervous system to turn down the pain in your body.

Not only can cannabis dial down your pain to a manageable level, but certain strains can also potentially help with the conditions which are causing the nerve pain – including muscle tightness and other chronic health conditions. Cannabis can help you get the sleep your body needs while it’s suffering and best of all cannabis is a lot gentler on your body than prescription treatment methods. It is also a lot less likely to cause dependency or a possible overdose. Sounds like a win all around!

What should I look for?

Luckily basically ANY way you want to ingest marijuana will work. Smoking or vaping will produce faster pain reduction results but taking capsules or using other edibles will provide more prolonged pain relief. Using salves or balms can absorb directly into the body exactly where they need to target the pain. Just be aware of how much you are using if you are choosing a few different ingestion methods.
